we've been really busy with home improvement projects and baby girl's birthday party this summer, and R has been wanting to go to the pool forever now (we pass by it to get to our house). so we finally took the kids last weekend, and they had such a blast!! it makes me happy to see my kids are water babies. :)
it brings back memories of the time we lived in fresno, from when i was about 4 til just before i started 2nd grade (when we moved up to the bay area). it would be so dreadfully hot in the summer, and i stayed with family friends who had 7 kids, the youngest just 2 years older than me, the oldest i think had just graduated high school. i think i was about 5, and this particular summer i remember literally waking up, my dad dropping me off at their house early in the morning, and us just playing in the pool all morning. getting out to eat a quick sandwich, then waiting 30 minutes like we were told to, then jumping back in til dinner time. getting out to eat a quick dinner, watching some TV, then jumping back in bedtime. we literally lived in the pool.
i also remember playing hide and seek in the dark, in their front yard and surrounding neighborhood. back then, it was what i would consider a safe area, and we kids used to walk everywhere, no matter what time of day or night. we never thought about getting kidnapped or anything happening to us. i cannot even imagine letting my kids do that today, even in our very safe neighborhood. watching things like the jaycee lee duggard interview with diane sawyer makes me want to never let them out of my sight. such a scary world we live in today.
