Day 24: A picture of something you wish you could change

i really wish i could change the way we eat. i wish i could help ppl understand that the food we eat directly affects our health. i wish i could force change in our government to DO SOMETHING about the poison we're being fed everyday. it amazes me that the government does nothing while companies are allowed to do marketing campaigns saying milk helps you lose weight, when the company later admitted there was no scientific basis behind this, it was ALL marketing!!!! W.T.F. it amazes me that the government does nothing while companies continue to grow genetically modified foods that have already been known to cause so many health issues. it amazes me that the government puts so much emphasis on health care, yet they fail to see that health is about taking care of yourself BEFORE issues erupt. i wish we didn't have factory farms. i wish we could go back to a more basic way of getting our food, little family farms, growing our fresh fruits and veggies and eating what's in season HERE, not what's in chile or argentina or new zealand. i want to eat eggs from the hens that laid them that morning. but i know this is impossible for everyone to do, as the population of the world grows and space becomes less and less available. so instead, we are fed this horrible food that is slowly killing us, and then resort to taking pills to help "heal" our ailments, only to need more pills to help with the side effects of the first pill. don't get me started on big pharma...that's a whole 'nother post! there is a really great documentary on PBS called "eating." it was made by a physician that really advocated a plant-based diet. he made a comment that i found really interesting...americans are overfed but undernurished. that's cuz of all the CRAP we call food!! it's a really great documentary and really makes you think about what you're eating. but no matter how hard i try to avoid crap, it's everywhere. i do my best to eat only organic (local when available), and make sure to avoid GMO foods at all costs. we avoid sugar as much as possible (tho it is my weakness). i do my best, but i still feel like it's not enough. the horrible food growing/raising practices we have adopted are not only killing us, it's killing our earth. i really wonder what kind of planet is going to be left in the decades to come.
