my friend makes her own yogurt, in a very non-scientific way. she gets raw milk from a local dairy farm and her 2-year-old son who used to love it, now refuses it and will only eat yogurt. so she made yogurt! i watched as she warmed the milk, added the starter (basically a big spoonful of yogurt she got from the dairy farm), let it rest in a nice warm bath in a cooler (i told you it wasn't very scientific). and in about 12 hours, voila!! she has yogurt! R and i tried it and R loved it (blended up with strawberries and blueberries, with a touch of raw honey). it was a little too sour for my taste. i thought what a great and cheap idea! we eat a ton of yogurt, and since we don't drink dairy, and i'm the only one eating cow's milk yogurt (for the protein mainly), i thought this might be a good way to save money on R's very expensive coconut milk yogurt (which if it's not on sale or i can't find coupons i end up spending $2 per little tiny container at whole foods, which i try to stretch out for 2 snacks by adding tons of fruit).

then i came across THIS!!! okay, i should also mention i cooking with my crockpot, so this intrigued me even more!! i can't wait to make some yogurt!! i may try it with rice milk, cuz we buy that at costco and it's much much MUCH cheaper than R's coconut milk (it's in a carton, like soymilk, not to be confused with the canned stuff you use in thai cooking, haha!). i'm so excited i may try to make this tonight!! hopefully it turns out as good as this lady says it will and in the morning i'll have fresh, delicious yogurt!
