a couple months after we moved into our house, we got a package addresed to the former owners. the sender had the same last name, so of course we assumed it was from a relative. well, we didn't have a way of contacting the former owners, so we figured they'd probably talk to the sender and figure out that we got their package. well, a few months went by and the package was still sitting there in our living room, with no one to claim it. it was from some maple syrup place in vermont or something, and it was quite heavy. we thought about sending it back, but again, the box was pretty heavy and we didn't want to spend money on that. our other option was to just open it! :) so we did. we figured it had been months since we got the package, and if the sender didn't know that these ppl, their assumed relatives, had moved, then that was their fault. maybe these ppl didn't want them to know they had moved? i dunno the story. but in any case, we decided it had been long enough and no one had claimed it, so it was now our's. we opened the box and there was a little can of maple syrup, and a package of pancake mix. the syrup was like real deal from a maple tree syrup. it was okay. i thought it didn't have much taste to it, and it was kinda runny. but the pancake mix could be used to make waffles, so i tried it out. we have a thick belgian waffle maker, like the professional kind, so it's hard to find mixes that work well in it. usually they come out very thick and dense, more suitable for the little eggo-type waffle irons. anyway, we tried it in our waffle iron, and seriously, the best waffles ever. very light and fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. deeelicious!!! well, we recently used up all of the waffle mix, and i need to order some more. so if you're in the search for some good belgian waffle mix, try out new hope mills! we had the old fashioned pancake mix, but i think i'll try the belgian waffle mix. mmm...i can't wait!!
